When this nice client visited the bakery to ask about a cake for her grandmother&#8217;s 80th birthday, all she had was a handful of photographs to inspire us. Our decorator Casey Ray had the idea to turn the cake into a 3-D scrapbook of memories. I thought it was a good idea, but I wasn&#8217;t sure how well the idea would really translate into a finished product. I needn&#8217;t have worried.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Scrapbook of memories cake for an 80th birthday party\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-207\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/whippedbakeshop.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_6104-500x375-1.jpg\" title=\"80th Birthday Cake\" width=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the little details that the crew put into this cake that really make it special. The curled effect of the fondant &#8220;paper&#8221;, the scrapbook frames around the edible images, the tiny stitching on the leather cover, the gilded corners of the base, the hand-piped lettering on the bookmark. Since I was the one to carry the heavy cake to the car, I got to see the granddaughter and her mother clapping with excitement as they pulled away.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Birthday cake from Whipped Bakeshop\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-208\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/whippedbakeshop.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/IMG_6095-500x375-1.jpg\" title=\"Scrapbook Cake\" width=\"500\" \/><br \/>It&#8217;s impossible to capture a lifetime&#8217;s essence with a cake, but this seems like a pretty good attempt.
